Dad looked at all of us and saw from the looks in our eyes that we wanted the place very much. He took out his cheques book and made out the sum. For no reason at all, I decided to look in the paper again the next day in the afternoon.

This time I wanted to see if anyone had advertised a house for rent. Imagine my shock when I saw that ‘our’ home was advertised as being for rent. I showed the advertisement to Dad, and he called the number immediately. A lady answered the phone. Dad sat down after the call and then collected himself and dashed to his car. I went with him. We went to the police. 

As it turned out, the man who took the cheques was had cashed it that morning. We learnt later that he a professional confidence trickster and had cheated many people – with the same ruse. No one knew how he got the keys to the house he used for his scams. He had known the movements that when we are considering concerning the people of the places that he operated in. He never caught—one to us. But we lost three thousand good things happened though; the owner rented the house.
